Terminators Arrived!

Box #1 got here today, with only one set, but they look pretty cool, the SW Terminator squad.  We'll see if there's time to assemble tonight or not.  Trip next week will cut into assembly time so might just wait until it's all here.

Forge World, you eeeeeevil eeeeeevil place...

Yeah, so on the way from England now are some Space Wolves doors for my Razorbacks, a few odds and ends, and oh yeah, one venerable SW Dreadnaught found its way into my shopping cart.  Only 26 GBP!

Army will get a bit of revision, changed my GW order to scale it back a bit after my phantom Ebay win from yesterday which gives me 2 more drop ships and a ton more troops than Iw as expecting to have.   I'll wait on Rhinos and Speeders for now, but added a 2nd pack of Long Fangs for giggles.

Phantom Ebay Win!

So wasn't intentional, but a bid I put in on two battlepacks ended up winning.  Great for me for getting two for $112.50, but now I have to figure out how to add in more troops or just leave them sitting or what.

Hrmmm

Um yeah...

So my initial point allocation is 1860 points and there's some troop weapon points that aren't quite right yet, and will need some tweaking with Aaron to get how I want it before we start assembling models.

Here's what we have so far:

HQ:
Captain
Terminator Rune Priest

Elites:
Scout Packs (2)

Troops:
Blood Claw Pack (2)
Grey Hunter Pack (2)

Fast Attack:
Speeder Squadron

Heavy Support:
Long Fangs Pack

With all of these also will be Drop Pod (2), Rhino (2), and a Razorback to start with.  Doing 5 pieces of armor along with all the marines themselves is a good start (maybe too ambitious, we'll see.  There's some specials like a sergeant and a standard bearer as well, but nothing too overly crazy to being with.

I guess all I can do not is keep tweaking my point allocations, and wait for boxes to arrive...and try not to add anything else to the list.

Wow, just wow...

So the last time I did miniatures I was a game store co-owner and had a lot of resources at hand that most people might not (not to mention being only 80 miles from Games Workshop), but that was in 1994, and doing things online just really didn't exist except for BBS systems and email.

My two co-pushers in my new endeavor (or SQUIRREL! as my wife calls my hobbies) are most definitely Amazon.com and Ebay. I've already found the base sets I need to start my army off on the right foot on Amazon, and then found the modification mecca on Ebay, finding parts and bits, out of print pieces, and damn near anything else I could want (including some beautiful, but very expensive pre-painted pieces).

So winging their way to me via Amazon and Games Workshop are the following:

2x Space Wolves Battlepacks
3x Space Marine Speeders
2x Space Marine Rhino
1x Space Marine Razorback
1x Space Wolves Captain
1x Lukas the Trickster
1x Space Wolves Standard Bearer
1x Space Marines Scouts w/ Sniper Rifles (will need to modify)
1x Space Marines Devastator Squad (will need to modify)
1x Space Wolves Wolf Guard Terminators

I drooled on a few more things (I'd love a dreadnaught), but I won't go too nuts right off the bat, we can always add more later (and my birthday is coming!). I'll dig around on how to modify the two packs that I need, and work on points allocating and whatnot before they arrive to make assembly and whatnot easier.

So it starts...

So today we went to some friends' house for snacks, and I was led down into the basement, into the realm of miniatures, something that used to rule my life, long before college, marriage, kids, and gainful employment.

Aaron has a lot of Warhammer 40k, both his and those for others, and I could feel the itch starting to grow. I love painting miniatures, and had done a massive 40k army before (back in the olden days of 1994-95), so in talking to Aaron it sounds like that it's going to be a regular thing at his house, registered club and the whole bit (even with a real gaming table that I'm going to help create).

We left and I was talking about it with my wife (who is very tolerant of my hobbies) and shock of shocks, she's not against me playing and painting again (at least not yet). So I call up Aaron, and make a bro-date for after the kids are in bed.

After gawking over what's painted, in mid-flight, and what's just still happily sitting on sprues, I get it in my head that I'm really going to do this, and going to tackle something newly revised, Space Wolves. Other than the standard baby blue paint scheme (which we'll alter), I love the look and feel of the things, and I think we're going to make a go of it.

After talking general strategy and army make-up, we're going to shoot for around 1500 points to start with. I think that's manageable not only to paint and play, but won't cost so much that my wife will start checking my credit card statements on a regular basis to see what I'm buying.

It's off to Internet land to start searching for bargains (if they exist)...
